Komodo Island National Park

The Komodo Island is the home of the Komodo dragon, and because the Komodo dragon is a protected species, the island that serves as a home to the Komodo dragon also houses a National Park. The Komodo National Park is the protected area of the island where some 1,000 Komodo dragons live. It was as recently as the early 80's that this section of the island became protected territory and the protected area of the island covers and area of over 180 square miles.

Tourists are welcomed to Komodo Island where they can take a guided tour of the national park. Yet, because the Komodo dragon possesses a dangerous bite, one that has previously killed humans before, tourists are not permitted to stroll around the island without an informed guide. Further, tourists will find that dining on the island of Komodo is rather limited—there are village fish markets. Meanwhile, there are practically no accommodations available on the island unless the tourist is happy to stay in a relatively crude hut. In fact, most tourists book boating and diving adventures that allow them to remain on the boat and explore the island during the day. Finally, to get to the Island of Komodo , tourists will need to either access a plane or boat.
