An Interview with a Dragon - Part VII: Conclusion to the Story of Bertrand

Just as Bertrand was about to leave, his groin became electrified again. "Yeeee!" he yelped. "Alright! I have to follow you to the bloody town hall and see it that Julian is no longer Julian." They both went to the town hall, and Julian was perplexed over which name he would choose. The clever dragon Bertrand, in a flash of insight, said, "I know, you can change your name to Julian to Julien. It's different by virtue of one vowel, but different nonetheless."

"Yes," responded Julian, "it is also seemingly more French, and slightly more sophisticated. I like it."

After Julian legally became Julien, he noticed something strange and different about himself. "I feel slightly more refined and urbane with this new vowel in my name. In fact, I feel like I have more magical ability all of a sudden. Bertrand, I think in changing my name, I gained a level up as a wizard. I'm now a level 5 magician! Now I can go on thwarting Damien without getting mono. What can I do to repay you?"

"Just keep fighting the good fight, and if you can, see to it that your rival Damien never summons another dragon."

"Hmmm… yes! I can do that. I will simply replace his wand of dragon-summoning to a wand of grand piano-summoning. Now that I'm a level 5 wizard, that shouldn't be much of a problem at all."

"Now you're talking," said Bertrand. "Go get him."

Bertrand began to slowly walk away, cautiously at first, and then began to slowly fly, until he gained enough confidence that his loins would not be electrocuted. The spell had been broken as a result of Julian's changing of his name, as he was no longer Julian, but Julien, thereby fulfilling Damien's wish that he would never have to see Julian again so long as he lived. In actuality, the clever dragon Bertrand had done the exact opposite of what Damien truly wanted, as instead of killing the wizard Julian, he had made him more powerful, in an artful twisting of Damian's evil spell.
