An Interview with a Dragon - Part II: More on How Dragons Remain Hidden

VR: Indeed.

AD: Indeed, indeed. We must remember that humans believe that many things don't exist that are right in front of them all the time.

VR: So are you saying that dragons coexist with people all the time, and humans don't even see them just because of their beliefs?

AD: Yes.

VR: Fascinating. How do you keep so well-hidden?

AD: It's actually easier than you would think. Humans are not cognizant of many things that are always right in front of them. In this sense, you could say that dragons are on the same level of perceptibility as ghosts, happiness, the United States Government, and many times, even other people.

VR: Hmmm… I see. So you're saying that people do not value dragons much in the same way they do not value other people, and this is part of the reason they do not notice them?

AD: Yes.

VR: And because dragons can become invisible whenever they want, they can be like ghosts?

AD: Precisely.

VR: And dragons are like happiness because people are so involved with other things in their life that can never see that dragons and happiness are right there in front of them, beyond all the busy-ness?

AD: Exactly.

VR: But why are dragons like the US government?

AD: Well, the US Government is everywhere, but no one would like to think so. So, many would prefer not to think about this. The same goes for dragons. Do you think people would feel comfortable knowing that a dragon lived in a cave on the top of an apartment building that is disguised as a penthouse? Or in the back of a fancy restaurant in Chinatown?

VR: I would feel comfortable knowing these things. But then, not everyone is so enlightened as to the benefits of knowing dragons.
